Rest is basic for any entrepreneur or business professional. That much everyone agrees on. But the type of rest — that’s the part people skip, and it’s the actual key to getting rest that’s deserved and effective.
We treat rest like a formula: a vacation, a weekend off, eight hours of sleep. It isn’t. Rest is a variable, and it’s different for every person. The real work is understanding yourself well enough to find where — or what — actually gives you the resting variables your body and mind need to reset, refill with energy, and rebuild the positivity and resilience you’ll need for the chaos still coming.
Some people need huge, risky activities — the kind that demand full presence and burn off everything else. Others need a change of pace more than a full stop. Some travel. For me, it’s learning something new and being with family — that’s what actually refills me, not just distracts me from running empty.
None of these is the “right” answer. They’re just examples. The point is the research: trying things, noticing what actually gives you energy back versus what just fills the time, and adjusting. Your age, your culture, your environment — they’ll all shift what works. Try, fail, try again.
So here’s what I’d encourage you to do this August: find your resting variables. Don’t copy anyone else’s version of rest — find yours. It sounds like a small exercise. It isn’t. The future depends on you finding it.
