I have been a TED Talk and TEDx follower for years, I love the small and fast sharing of ideas, and how different people from different backgrounds work and think about what matters to them.
When you like to learn about things, especially those you don’t have any knowledge about, clarity and variety is a must.
I even have some talks save in my phone that I listen to every day or at least every week, Brené Brown and her” power of vulnerability” talk, Malcom Gladwell and his “spaghetti sauce” story, or even Barry Schwartz and his “paradox of choice”.
These talks remind me of the intelligence out there, that we don’t have to do it alone, and we can learn from a lot of people out there and we should crave this knowledge.
Some of these amazing speeches, have become religion to some people, and others have discovered a great thinker that may give us a great deal of lessons writing books after an opportunity like TED Talk, remember Simon Sinek and his “Golden circle” ….
I have been a university teacher for a few years now, and I use TED as a good example for my students to learn and discovered new ideas, ways and cultures, and now I am part of that TED family.
A few months ago, I was offer the opportunity to pitch an idea to record a TEDx talk and these time I jump to the task. I say these times, because a few years before, around 2017 I was offer to record a TEDx talk in Madrid Cibeles, but I was not sure I was ready. I had just come back from Australia and I was building my own company.
This time I felt I could not lose the chance to be part of a family that I have been following for so long, especially in collaboration with the amazing institution that was organizing the event, Geneva Business School.
The talk had to be around the topic of mistakes and failures, if humans where capable of change? And on that topic, I gave my opinion.
I trust in each and every human …..individually, yes individually, as a collective or a society, well, I believe we have some work to do……
Collectively, the human race in my modest opinion, needs work, once we get more than three people together the human social needs kick in and that is where my doubts in human capacity and resilience appear.
Maslow described in the hierarchy of needs, he stablished that after fulfilling the physiological and safety needs, the social need.
Once we are in the group, in our tribe, we start lowering down our defenses, we aloud others opinions to matter more than ours, we start thinking if our opinions and believes are wrong, if they are not agreed by all or most of our group.
some choose to be quiet, others to follow, all to belong …and the fear of losing that social need starts blurring our own personality……
Watch the video and don’t hesitate to write me back with your thoughts…they are welcome.
Anyway, finally have my TEDx talk, hopefully not the last, and I do hope you like it.
